Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway, Malakian’s band, was formed in 2008. This resulted in the band eventually splitting up due to differences in songwriting. System OF A DOWN performed a couple of live shows in May 2019. Tankian is working on a EP titled Elasticity, a play on SYSTEM’s Toxicity album, which was released in 2001. Serj Tankian, a bassist with System of a Down, plans to release a solo EP this year. According to Tankian, the primary cause of the stalemate was a lack of creative and financial resources. Tankian has not recorded in 2018, Daron Malakian claimed in an email. There hasn’t been any creative contact in the last few weeks. The reason for their extended hiatus is unknown, but it is speculated that the band members may simply be too busy with other projects to focus on making new music. The band has been inactive for so long that it is unclear if they will ever make new music again.
